Anegundi Village Walk, Craft Workshop and Lunch

About this walk

Anegundi is a serene village north of the Tungabhadra river, that quietly holds glimpses of something much older - the origins of the Vijayanagara empire. It was here in Anegundi that King Harihara founded his empire in 1336. His successor, Bukka Raya, later shifted the capital to a new location - Hampi. Unlike Anegundi, Hampi lay south of the Tungabhadra, making it easier to defend from northern incursions.

This tour includes a stroll through the small village of Anegundi, a hands-on craft session at a non-profit making banana fibre crafts, and traditional Karnataka lunch at a local village home.

The old and the new co-exist in Anegundi. During the walk, you will see village life and some heritage sites. The banana fibre handicraft workshop is conducted by a non-profit, that works to empower the Anegundi community through heritage conservation, arts and crafts and hospitality training. You will get a tour of the workshop, and learn the craft from the village women. The tour ends with a visit to a local home for a freshly cooked traditional lunch.
